Anthony L. Merolla
Anthony L. Merolla, of counsel to the Firm, brings a unique perspective to the Firm’s real estate practice, having spent 9 years of his legal career at a leading international specialist bank for real estate and public finance. Mr. Merolla structured and closed multiple billions of dollars of commercial real estate loans including balance sheet and syndicated transactions, large and conduit CMBS loans, mezzanine loans, and construction financings. During the financial downturn, Mr. Merolla led the workout, restructure, and sale of various loan facilities and gained experience with deed-in-lieu and foreclosure transactions, the management of REO properties, and the ultimate disposition of such properties.
In private practice, Mr. Merolla represents lenders and borrowers in all phases of commercial lending across a wide variety of property types including multi-family, office, hospitality, industrial and retail projects in all states. His experience includes senior/subordinate note structures, mezzanine financing, intercreditor and co-lender arrangements, loan sales, securitizations, and syndications. Mr. Merolla also represents sellers and purchasers of real estate, lessors and lessees in commercial leasing arrangements and loan sellers and issuers in CMBS transactions.
In addition to his in-house experience, prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Merolla was associated with the firms of Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft LLP and Kelley Drye & Warren LLP. Mr. Merolla is admitted to practice law in the State of New York. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Fordham Law School and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Law from Binghamton University where he graduated summa cum laude and became a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
